Driveaway kit Explainer

We often get asked about how to connect a driveaway awning to your Campervan….

There are a few options – here are 2 of the most popular:

Using a driveaway kit:

If you already have either a windout canopy (such as a Fiamma or Thule) OR an awning rail (such as reimo or vamoose) then the simplest way to connect a driveaway awning to you can is using a driveaway kit, which not only allows you to easily connect your awning to the vehicle but in just a few seconds you can disconnect easily allowing you the freedom to drive off for the day and simply reconnect when you arrive back to your pitch.

Driveaway kits are available in 3 sizes:

  • 4-6mm (these are generally the size needed when you have a windout canopy fitted to your van)
  • 6-6mm (these are generally the size you need when you have an awning rail fitted to your van)
  • 4/6-6mm (this is considered to be a ‘universal’ driveaway kit which is suitable for either a windout canopy or an awning rail)

If you don’t have either an awning rail or a driveaway canopy then you can still use a driveaway awning, the driveaway awnings come with ‘over vehicle’ traps which you simply pop over the vehicle roof (if you have a pop top these are designed to go around then front and back of the pop top) and then just peg into then ground on the opposite side.
